As anyone who has read through my blog can attest, I am an open sourcerer and since there aren't any formal open source training centers around( this ain't India) I an unable to acquire an open source certification, everything that I have learnt about open source has been self taught and has a bit of a rough edge to it.
Getting back to the main gist of the post, I may have landed a contract upgrading the ubuntu operating system installed in some of our Nairobi cyber cafes. The opportunity came about quite accidentally but I believe that It just proves the existence of a market for this kind of thing and this is one area where my knowledge of open source software will be an advantage.
With more and more people adopting open source the opportunities available for those of up with an interest and a headstart in this business are beginning to look up and this is just the begining! With time we should be able to push open source adoption to new heights.
This post is another of those "typed in a mathree on a mobile phone" posts and yes, It proves the usability of mobile phones in not just accessing but also utilizing the internet.
